Isle Royale Shakedown Campout

Scouts who are participating in the Troop's 2021 High Adventure to Isle Royale will be completing their first "shakedown" June 11 - June 13 at Backbone State Park. Shakedowns are intended to not only be a conditioning exercise but also give individuals the opportunity to “shake out” equipment that they may or may not need.

You do not need to be going to Isle Royale to attend this campout, however, you will be expected to follow the hiking itinerary, as there won’t be any adults at the campsite while the group is trekking. We'll be targeting a total of 15 miles during the 3 days.

The focus on the campout will be Backpacking MB Requirement 10. Scouts who are training for Isle Royale will be packing up their gear every morning and set up camp again when they return from each hike.

Scouts who are not working on the Backpacking MB reqs. or training for Isle Royale do not need to pack up their camp each day, they can just leave their tents set up and just participate in the hikes.

Backbone also has some great fishing, so you might want to pack fishing gear. Don’t forget licenses, as applicable. Saturday will have a good amount of free time.

6/11: Meet at 5pm at First Christian Church to depart
6/13: Tentative return time: Noon Sunday

Cost:  35 per scout, 10 per adult

The full details of the itinerary will be emailed to those who sign up.
The deadline to sign up is June 6th
